WE ARE CREATIVE
Overcoming the climate crisis will require us to radically rethink the way we design economies, engage in global trade and offer aid, and all our assumptions about hierarchy, power, safety. Creativity is a necessary and fundamental part of this work, which we must nourish and prioritize.
Climate Critical® places a premium on creativity. We see it as strategic authority in the hands of emergent, multi-generations of leaders ready to bring generative problem solving, critical thinking, skills development, and risk tolerance necessary to solve this crisis.
We are co-powering
The scale of our challenge is enormous. Meaningful responses will require all of us if we are to avert the dynamic impacts of climate disaster. Today’s working model of climate and environmental organizations systematically disempower leaders and organizers of color. This is a model designed to fail, everyone.
Climate Critical® builds power with all kinds of leaders, particularly from communities and cultures traditionally marginalized and excluded from progressive climate organizations. In our experience, Black women are a telling proxy for all of the progressive movement’s gaps in achieving effective leadership. We are here to co-power with the leadership we will need for a crisis of global magnitude.
We are caring
We cannot afford to lose the power of people stewarding this collective work — and certainly not to burnout and exhaustion. Care and repair is a mandatory part of success and succession for healthy movements, not a luxury. If we want to succeed we must tend to our relationships with one another. And mend our trauma as individuals and community. We value multigenerational wisdom, and nourish our curiosity, creativity, and emotional health as skills.
Climate Critical® supports transformation of the culture of environment, climate and energy organizations to end the practice of treating people as infinite resources to be exploited until replaced.
We are CRITICAL
Command and control got us into this. It will take a different type of leadership to get us out.
Climate Critical® believes that we will fail to overcome the climate emergency if our movements are not resdesigned to follow the leadership emerging from Black women and people of the global majority. We are critical to this work and have no time to waste in putting our talents into practice for durable solutions.
